A blank, torn-edge piece of paper with a textured surface is isolated on a plain background

When we first stepped into writing classrooms, we felt the absence immediately.

The syllabi rarely reflected writers who looked like us.

The instructors were often not people of color.

The cost of courses made access uneven.

And too often, Writers of Color were encouraged to “refine” their voices in ways that muted who they truly were.

Writing In Color empowers writers of color by providing access to high-quality, no-cost writing education and community support. Our mission is to amplify and demarginalize voices that have been historically silenced or overlooked — helping writers of color see themselves as authors, critics, storytellers, and leaders who shape culture.

Representation

Every course is led by teachers of color, featuring texts and references exclusively from writers of color.

Accessibility

All classes are free, inclusive, and open to anyone who identifies as a person of color.

Healing

Writing is our tool for reflection, community care, and personal empowerment.

Belonging

We cultivate spaces where writers feel seen, supported, and celebrated for who they are.
